At 9:15 p.m. tonight we were called to the report of a residential fire with flames showing.Upon Chief's arrival the fire had vented through the roof on the southwest side of the home.Crew's made entry in the front door but as the roof started to collapse they quickly exited the home and went into defensive mode.We found out that even though we were told by neighbors that everyone was out except for the dog the homeowner was still inside and a sheriffs officer spotted him and got him and the dog out of the home unharmed. We used around 27,000 gallons of water to finally extinguish the fire. The home is still standing but is a total loss.We were assisted with tankers from Cass Clinton,Morgan Twp,Kouts,Union Twp,Westville,Liberty and Chesterton fire departments. The Red Cross brought out refreshments for the firefighters and the homeowners and Porter Hospital EMS assisted in rehab.
Thanks to all who came out and helped.
