The members of the Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department would like to take this time to thank all of you who came to eat breakfast with us or just supported us in this wonderful event. I would also like to thank our committee for a extrodinary effort in putting this event on. Thanks to co-chairman Matt Preuss and Jamie Bogan!All of our members pitched in and gave alot of thier time to make this event happen.We are already planning next years breakfast ,so keep checking in here and we will let you know the date of next years breakfast.We would also like to thank all of the business's who donated items for our breakfast.See you next year!

 

New Tanker 2942 Has Arrived!!!Posted By R.Huffstodt on Wednesday, December 09, 2009 at 21:53On Monday December 7,2009 Tanker 2942 arrived at it's home in Washington Township. It is a 2010 Kenworth T370 Tanker. It has 3000 gallons water and a 500 GPM Hale pump and three 10" hydraulic dump chutes that can be operated by the driver without having to get out of the truck. It really looks nice. Thank you to the grant committee and the truck committee. The in service date should be in January. Stay tuned.

At 6:46 a.m. on Friday 11/27/2009 we were dispatched to report of smoke in a house. Upon arrival of Chief 2901 we had smoke visible from the eaves and roof.Crews quickly got inside and found the fire in the attic and extinguished it. We had a great response and thanks to Porter County Officer Ed Clapp who evacuated the residents.Thanks to Morgan Fire and Porter Valpo Hospital EMS for their efforts at the scene. A job well done by all!!!!

Washington Township battled a structure fire at 69 Colonial Ave on the fourth of July weekend.The fire which was discovered at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday July 5,2009 was contained to the strucutre itself with damage to the sideing of the homes to the north and south.Washington went to a first alarm and a tanker plan#1 due to the lack of hydrants nearby.Assisting Washington was Morgan,Liberty,Cass-Clinton,Valparaiso,Kouts,Union.Also assisting on scene was Porter County Sheriff,Porter Hospital Valparaiso Campus EMS and the Porter County F.I.S.T..Although the fire was primarily contained to the home it was a total loss.

On Saturday June 27,2009 WTVFD with the help of Morgan Township and Boone Grove Fire departments we did some interior fire training at the house on 146 N 450 E,given to us by Tom Stoner to train in . Prior to this earlier in the month Tom lost his barn to a fire. Crews were given the chance to suppress some room and content fires before we let it burn to the ground.

Washington Township Fire battles another barn fire  this time at the Tom Stoner farm around 4:30 a.m. on Monday June 8,2009. This farm is only one half mile from the  Nathanial Martin farm were we had a barn fire in April.Assisting us was Cass-Clinton,Westville,Chesterton,Liberty Township,South Haven,Union Township,Porter Township,Lake of the Four Seasons,Kouts,Valparaiso,and Morgan Township fire departments.Also assisting was Porter Valparaiso Hospital EMS,Porter County Sheriff,Porter County Highway and the Red Cross provided lunch.We used around 300,000 gallons water to extinguish the majority of the fire.The highway department assisted in removing some of the 800-900 bales of hay and straw so we could put water on them.We managed to keep the fire from spreading to the house and other barns on the property.The very next day for our training we went back to the scene and applied more water and foam around 8000 gallons of water and 20 gallons of foam.

On Thursday April 16,2009 at 4:30 a.m. Washington Township Fire was assisted by Morgan Township,Kouts,Valparaiso,Cass-Clinton,Westville and Liberty Township fire departments on a barn fire at the Nathanial Martin farm. The barn and it's contents were a total loss.
