Washington Township Fire Battles Second Barn FirePosted By R.Huffstodt on Thursday, June 11, 2009 at 23:13
Washington Township Fire battles another barn fire this time at the Tom Stoner farm around 4:30 a.m. on Monday June 8,2009. This farm is only one half mile from the Nathanial Martin farm were we had a barn fire in April.Assisting us was Cass-Clinton,Westville,Chesterton,Liberty Township,South Haven,Union Township,Porter Township,Lake of the Four Seasons,Kouts,Valparaiso, and Morgan Township fire departments. Also assisting was Porter Valparaiso Hospital EMS,Porter County Sheriff,Porter County Highway and the Red Cross provided lunch. We used around 300,000 gallons water to extinguish the majority of the fire. The highway department assisted in removing some of the 800-900 bales of hay and straw so we could put water on them.We managed to keep the fire from spreading to the house and other barns on the property. The very next day for our training we went back to the scene and applied more water and foam around 8000 gallons of water and 20 gallons of foam.
